Learn how the Benefits of Heated Driveways far Outweigh the Costs

You may have heard that heated driveway systems are the only way to go these days. In fact, you’ve probably heard that once you go radiant, you never go back. But what exactly are the costs associated with heated driveways, and is it really worth your hard-earned money?

Many consumers are surprised by the affordability of heated driveway systems. They may sound like a luxury, but if you break down the costs, you’ll see that radiant heated driveways are an affordable luxury that every homeowner can have.

Operating Costs
Radiant heated driveways are the most efficient snow removal system out there.  About 99 percent of all the energy used by a radiant heated driveway goes to melting snow, meaning you don’t waste money heating the ground below the driveway. Additionally, a 300 square foot heated driveway can operate for less than 90 cents an hour. And the best part? Radiant heated driveways heat up 30 percent faster than other snow melting systems (such as hydronic radiant heating), meaning your operating costs are minimal.

Installation Costs
Warmzone heated driveway systems are quick and easy to install. Any motivated do-it-yourselfer can install the system with little cost. Additionally, Warmzone heated driveways take only a fraction of the time and cost than other, more complicated systems require.

Electric heated driveway. Maintenance Costs
Herein lies the real beauty of heated driveway systems: there are no maintenance costs! Unlike hydronic systems, electric radiant heated driveways don't require additional equipment and have no moving parts, so there is no need to perform yearly maintenance. Install a heated driveway system and know that you can count on it for life.

As you can see, the costs of radiant heated driveways are minimal compared to the numerous benefits they afford. They’re efficient, they’re maintenance-free, and, best of all, they’ll keep you and your wallet happy all winter long.

Surviving the Winter with a Radiant Heated Driveway

February 01, 2010 00:02 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

The only way to stay Snow-Free and Sane this Winter is with Radiant Heat

Twice this month I’ve been confronted with the conundrum of getting up tumultuous and very steep driveways in a blizzard. Fortunately for me, both of these driveways were radiant heated driveways—an absolute must for both of these snowy neighborhoods.

Electric driveway snow melting system in action.Driving around those neighborhoods was an eye opener about just how crucial heated driveway systems are for those living in elevated areas. As I cruised around the neighborhoods, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for the people attempting to shovel mountains of snow off their driveways. Watching their feeble attempts and then looking at the next-door neighbor’s radiant heated driveway that was clear as summertime made me realize that the only way to survive the harsh winter months is with a radiant heated driveway.

Heated driveway systems are becoming increasingly popular with consumers everywhere. They’re easy and affordable to install, and because they’re so outstandingly effective, it’s no wonder why everyone is jumping on the heated driveway bandwagon. The best part about heated driveways? They’re absolutely maintenance free. Instead of busting their backs and blistering their fingers, radiant heated driveway owners are letting their heated driveway systems do all the work for them while they watch the snow melt right before their eyes in the comfort of their own homes.

If you live in a snowy area, don’t let yourself get trapped by a mountain of snow on your driveway. Install a heated driveway system and let radiant heat do all the work for you. There’s really no other way to survive the winter, and with their affordability and efficiency, why wouldn’t you get one?

Radiant Snow Melting - The Gift that Keeps on Giving

It’s getting deep into the season for heavy snow fall. You can’t turn on the news and not see some place getting hit hard with the white stuff. Brace yourself for a few more months of it. The meteorologists have been forecasting a wet winter for a while now. (I guess El Niño is visiting us folks in the Western U.S.) Fortunately, not all of us have to labor shoveling snow off of the driveways or sidewalks. Some lucky homeowners have snow melting systems that do all the snow removal for them.

Shoveling snow from driveway.Nothing could be easier than getting up in the morning and seeing a clear driveway on a snowy day. With radiant heat snow melting cable installed in your driveway (and/or sidewalks), your worries are gone. As the temperatures and conditions present themselves, the heated driveway system’s snow sensor triggers the unit, automatically activating the system and voila, and your wintery troubles melt away.

Radiant snow melting systems are the thing to have in this day and age of electronics. It’s the easy way to stay ice-free this winter. If you have just settled in for a long winter’s nap, don’t forget these systems can be installed over existing driveways. No need to pack up and build a new house. Put a radiant snow melting system on your Christmas list for next year. It really is the gift that will keep on giving.

Pedestrian Safety is Key

Why Not Apply a Snow Melting System to a Sidewalk?

Typically, when we think about radiant snow melting systems we associate them with heated driveways. But snowmelt systems aren't just for heated driveways. Why not apply the same smart technology for heated sidewalks, steps and public walkways?

Radiant snow melting systems can be installed in sidewalks. When city planners begin work on a public park or architects design a new business complex, pedestrian safety is paramount. In cold climate areas, using a radiant snowmelt system in steps and walkways would be a significant perk to any existing or new project where pedestrian traffic is being taken into account. Having walks clear of snow at all times can increase traffic as well as safety.

Snow melting systems are relatively affordable and save you in the long run when it comes to snow removal cost and headaches. The fully automated snowmelt systems are simple to maintain because they require no human intervention. They do however come with a manual override should you ever need to adjust or tweak your snowmelt system, such as in cases of snow drifts.

Radiant snowmelt systems utilize radiant heat in the concrete or asphalt to help keep walks clear of snow and ice. This makes walking much safer for pedestrians in cold climates. Each snow melting system can be customized to meet your specific project needs and can be installed in uniquely shaped areas as well. Using a snow melting system anywhere there are pedestrians present is a sure way to keep everyone safe and dry.

Snow, Snow Go Away

Come Again Another Day, Maybe After I Install A Heated Driveway

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could make a simple call to Mother Nature and ask her nicely to please make it stop snowing? I’d put her on speed dial every November and place a well-timed call as the temperatures dip. Sadly if you live in a climate that gets snow, there isn’t a way to make it go away. It would be nice if it could hold off at least until your heated driveway system is installed and up and running. If you have a heated driveway it doesn’t matter quite as much when the snow flies, because at least while you are home your driveway and sidewalks are protected from pesky snowfall.

Heated driveway with heat cable under stone pavers.A driveway snowmelt system uses radiant heat cables placed in a grid beneath the surface of your existing or new driveway. The cables utilize energy-efficient heat to keep your driveway warm and clear of snow and ice. These radiant snow melting systems can be used in a variety of applications. You won’t have to do any more “Snow, Snow Go Away” chants because it simply won’t matter to you if it falls. In fact, let it fall and let your heated driveway do all the dirty work. With the automated, user-friendly control unit you can set it to your desired specifications and then watch the snow fall from the comfort of your couch. So light a fire, grab a cup of something warm and sing a new song. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Radiant Snow Melting Systems Almost Make Winter Enjoyable

I sure like summer time, never having to worry about clearing icy walks or shoveling snow out of the driveway. Well, did you know that you don’t have to do all that manual snow removal in the winter either? Fortunately, technology has brought us the gift of radiant driveway heating, and they are here to stay. To be quite frank, these automated radiant snowmelt systems are the shizzle. The systems are easy to install, fully automated, and affordable to operate. The systems are easy to install, fully automated, and affordable to operate. All you have to do is watch the snow melt. That’s the fun part.

Radiant heated driveway.Snow melting systems consist of a heat cable inlaid within the driveway material (concrete, asphalt, pavers, etc.). A sensor installed with the system triggers a control unit that powers the system, providing instant snowmelt. What could be better? Remember when microwaves came along? Many people asked, why would you need that? Well, snow melt systems may garner the same reaction but it won’t take long before people start thinking, “What would I do without it?”

These heated driveways can also be installed over an existing driveway so contact Warmzone and see what options are available. Take the brunt out of winter.

Snow Melting Cable

November 12, 2009 00:11 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Removing (Melting) Snow the Easy Way

It wasn’t that many years ago that I sat and listened to my grandpa talk about how he walked to and from school every day in the snow. He walked for miles everyday, and oddly enough, the trek was up hill – both ways! Anyhow, I do respect what he went through. Flash forward to today and our grand folks might be amazed at some of the conveniences we enjoy, not to mention how “cushy” our lives our. Radiant snow melting cable would have to be one of the modern conveniences that would make their eyes roll back in their heads – but I'm sure my grand dad would be first in line to install a radiant heated driveway.

Heat cable, or snow melting cable, can be installed in concrete, asphalt or underpaver driveways and allows for us to melt snow and ice around the home or business the easy way. Heat cable is laid out and then the finish surface is applied over that. You don’t even have to do a thing as it is all fully automated. A sensor will activate the system when needed so you can sit and watch the snow melt from your cozy living room. Grandpa and grandma would be amazed.

Radiant snow melting systems aren’t just for the sidewalk or driveway. They are also handy for melting snow buildup on your roof and gutters. No more broken gutters due to ice buildup and no more ducking as you walk under that area where the ice cycles  drip on you as you go under. (Or worse yet, they hang like menacing daggers, waiting to impale the next unsuspecting pedestrian.)

It’s the 2000’s folks. Automated snow melting is affordable, maintenance free and here to stay. Sure, grandpa may think I'm spoiled, but I'd be a fool to not take advantage of the technologies that are available today.
