This is One Green Thing You Can Do to Save Your Aching Back

Is it possible to be gorgeously green, eco-conscious AND save your aching back this winter by installing an electric heated driveway ? The green tidal wave is heading your way, down your street in fact, and who would have thought you could join by simply adding a snow melting system to your home? With sagging home prices staring us in the face, driveway heating is also a great way to increase the value of your home. There is much in our lives that is uncertain right now. What is certain is that winter will come, you can install a snow melting system, and you can help protect our environment by doing so.

A snow melting system has the sophistication to automatically detect moisture, so it only uses energy when needed. Utilizing this renewable energy to heat your driveway is a smart and eco-friendly choice. By electrically heating your driveway, you also eliminate the need for salt or harsh chemicals that harm the environment. What about the snow shoveling, the waterlogged gloves, the red nose, and the cantankerous, aching back? The great news is that not only can you save Mother Earth by installing an electric heated driveway, but now you can save YOU too.

Does a Heated Driveway Consume High Amounts of Energy?

January 07, 2013 00:01 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Don't Expect Much Change on Your Electricity Bill!

Snowmelt Systems are cost effectiveBeing concerned with adding a snowmelt system to your home and the impact that will have on the environment is admirable. Heavens know we don't want to create any extra burdens for our poor earth. However a radiant heated driveway is one of the efficient ways to remove snow as it runs on a 240 volt 30-amp breaker and only runs when the system is required. Snowmelt systems are not on around the clock so they don't drain unnecessary amounts of energy. An automatic snow sensor uses savvy technology to detect when the system should be turned on and does so remotely from your garage or basement (wherever you choose to install it).

The cost of operating a heated driveway is dependant on the spacing of the heat cables as well as how much space you are covering on your property. Having a four inch spacing is recommended most of the time for optimal energy efficiency as well as effective snow melting. If the rows are closer than the recommended four inches, obviously that will drain more energy and consume a higher wattage of power. The average operational cost for driveway snow melting is approximately $.28 per 100 square feet per hour the system is in use.

Simple things like balancing boxes, navigating stairs with a bundle in our arms, and snow shoveling quickly become tasks we take great care with. Forget Mistletoe, Bring on Driveway Heating

December 14, 2012 00:12 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Leave the Mushy Stuff Alone, Give a Practical Gift

Women and men reading this should take special note. This holiday season put down the mistletoe, step away, and start looking at installing a heated driveway . All that lovey dovey mushy stuff can wait. You’ve got winter to face and the tender sentiment of kissing your sweetheart under the mistletoe isn’t going to clear the 2 feet of snow off your driveway. You know what will clear all that snow? A radiant snow melting system that literally does all the heavy lifting for you.

Installing a heated driveway means that the heavy lifting now gets done by a tiny automatic snow sensor that takes up a small spot on a wall out of the way somewhere in your house or garage. Once the heating cables are laid snugly beneath your driveway, you turn the snow sensor on and it reads the outside situation so even when you’re not home the heated driveway will work hard to keep your snow clear. Now that I mention it, don’t forget the mistletoe after all. With all your free time this year spent NOT shoveling your snow, you’ll have plenty of time to cuddle under the mistletoe with that special someone. Go for it and enjoy your very practical, very perfect gift of driveway heating.

Heated Driveways Will Save you Time

Heated Driveway in actionWere you sitting around last winter wondering how you could fill your time? Were you sitting in the window seat of your bedroom staring wistfully out at the landscape hoping for a monster snow storm so you could put on seven layers of warm clothes and shovel, plow, and heave snow from the surface of your driveway? Me either. In fact, I was thinking how it would be nice to have one less thing to worry about during the hustle and bustle of the holidays especially. The holiday season is right when a lot of us typically get some major snow storms. This is where a heated driveway comes in handy. Having radiant snow melting in place means you never have to worry about the time you need to carve out for shoveling, plowing, snow blowing, or chipping ice and snow from the driving and walking surfaces of your home.

Heated driveways are a major time saver. Particularly if the weather man predicts and actually gets it right one night and the next day you wake up to a foot of snow. Snow that would usually mean back-breaking work, with a heated driveway now means “no big deal.” Heated driveways save you the time it would take to clear your driveway because the heating cables have worked consistently through the night (and day) to keep your driveway surface warm so nothing can accumulate. We are all looking for ways to save time and money and having a heated driveway does just that.

Brick, Concrete, Asphalt Snow Melting, Oh My!

November 16, 2012 00:11 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Heated Driveways Will Surprise and Astound You

Dual-track Snowmelt system under asphalt If you have ever wondered what type of driveway material supports driveway heating , look no further. I will expand and astound with these three words: brick, concrete, asphalt. Oh my! Chances are if you are laying a driveway out you are considering all your options on how it will look and what it will cost, but have you considered how you will clear the snow? Heated driveways are fast becoming the number one choice among homeowners as they are affordable and save time and money and energy.

Heated driveways can be retrofitted in certain types of driveways but are a great choice for new brick, concrete, or asphalt driveways as the radiant heat cable is simply laid beneath the surface and provides lasting endurance and snow melting all season long. Having a heated driveway will surprise and astound you at how simple they are to operate and how effective they are at keeping your driveway clear of snow. Radiant snowmelt systems operate from a central location, usually in your basement or garage and use a snow sensor to do most of the work. The sensor detects outside conditions and sends feedback to the central system turning on only when necessary so you aren’t wasting electricity. This saves you time and money and allows you to enjoy your winters more.

You'll Sleep Better with a Heated Driveway

October 19, 2012 00:10 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Enjoy a More Relaxing Winter with Driveway Heating

Heated Driveway in a snowstormI remember watching the news late at night with my parents as a child, waiting for the weatherman to offer his sketchy predictions on what to expect the next day from the sky. This was especially critical to my dad during the winter time, as he was the self-appointed snow removal expert. In order to effectively plan his morning he needed to know if snow was coming and how much to plan on so he could appropriately gauge his time before work. A large snow storm in the forecast usually meant a much earlier morning for him as he fired up the snow blower, geared up in many layers and goggles and braved the dark morning to clear the snow so we could all leave the home safely.

With the dawn of driveway heating , those weather reports are not as necessary for him or others just like him who have heated driveways. The weather is just something you talk about with grocery store clerks or your lesser-known co-workers to fill the awkward din of conversation. Snow could fall or not fall, what would it matter to you with a heated driveway? And think of all the extra sleep you’d be getting if you didn’t have to wait until the end of the news to get the weather report. You could get the highlights broadcast early on, then flip off your light, tuck yourself in and drift off, confident that your driveway will be clear in the morning no matter what happens over night. You’ll find you are more relaxed with a heated driveway and not quite as caught up in watching the forecasts.
