Going Green for Spring with a Radiant Heated Driveway

Save the Environment and Your Sanity with the Ease of  a Heated Driveway

We’ve all got spring on our minds. Whether you live where it’s snowing or where it’s warm, you can’t help but feel excited for the new life that spring brings. Of course, with the new life of spring comes all kinds of new vegetation in our yards—the flowers, the lawn—and the last thing you want is to destroy it all with pesky ice-melting salts. What better time than spring to become a little more environmentally friendly by installing a radiant heated driveway?

Radiant heated driveway Heated driveway systems are an excellent way to go green this spring. By keeping your driveways free and clear of snow, heated driveways eliminate the need for salts and harmful chemicals that can annihilate the vegetation surrounding your yard.

As the salt that we put on our driveways melts, it turns into runoff that can quickly kill not only our lawn, but our neighbors’ lawns as well. Of course, salt doesn’t just kill plants—it also kills the tiny animals at the bottom of the food chain. The worst part about salt, however, is that too much of it in the public water systems could cause nasty side effects for us personally.

Radiant heated driveways completely eliminate the need for harmful salts as they use high-quality heating cables to melt the snow before it even has a chance to accumulate. A top-of-the-line snow sensor detects the slightest hint of a storm and activates the heating cables, meaning you get a clear and environmentally friendly driveway with absolutely no effort.

So this spring, keep the environment in mind. Go green with a radiant heated driveway.

Fortunate blizzard survivors everywhere are sighing with relief as their heated driveways do all the heavy work for them during not only this snowpocalypse, but also all future snowstorms to come. Preparing for the Winter with a Heated Driveway

February 12, 2010 00:02 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

The Top 3 Reasons you Should Include one in Your Winter Preparedness Checklist

Looking at the news coverage of the big storm in the east makes me shiver and realize how important it is to prepare for blizzards. Food storage, batteries, and water are all things we see as crucial in the winter when threats of blizzards are eminent, but I think that installing a radiant heated driveway is just as important in preparing for the harsh winter months.

We all know that preparing for the storm is smart. It allows us to stay one step ahead of the blizzard. Well, installing a heated driveway system is no different. In fact, it’s one of the greatest weapons you can arm your home with this winter. The following list outlines the top three reasons why you should include a radiant heated driveway in your winter preparedness kit this winter:

Maintenance Free
Radiant heated driveway.Radiant heated driveways melt the mountains of snow with absolutely no effort from you. No shoveling, salting, or blisters required.

Energy Efficient
Heated driveways not only melt the snow for you, but they do it efficiently. About 99 percent of all energy consumed by heated driveways goes to actually heating the driveway, meaning you don’t waste any money on wasted energy. Also, because they’re so efficient, heated driveways melt the snow quickly, resulting in less operating time and lower operating costs.

Safety
When the snow starts falling, the ice starts forming, and the injuries occur. Heated driveway systems melt the snow and ice before it even has a chance to happen, keeping you and your family safe all winter long.

While there are several more benefits to radiant heated driveways, these three make it absolutely clear that installing a heated driveway is the best way to prepare for the winter months. They’re affordable, they’re efficient, and they keep your family happy and safe—what more could you possibly want?

The Costs of Radiant Heated Driveways

February 10, 2010 00:02 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

Learn how the Benefits of Heated Driveways far Outweigh the Costs

You may have heard that heated driveway systems are the only way to go these days. In fact, you’ve probably heard that once you go radiant, you never go back. But what exactly are the costs associated with heated driveways, and is it really worth your hard-earned money?

Many consumers are surprised by the affordability of heated driveway systems. They may sound like a luxury, but if you break down the costs, you’ll see that radiant heated driveways are an affordable luxury that every homeowner can have.

Operating Costs
Radiant heated driveways are the most efficient snow removal system out there.  About 99 percent of all the energy used by a radiant heated driveway goes to melting snow, meaning you don’t waste money heating the ground below the driveway. Additionally, a 300 square foot heated driveway can operate for less than 90 cents an hour. And the best part? Radiant heated driveways heat up 30 percent faster than other snow melting systems (such as hydronic radiant heating), meaning your operating costs are minimal.

Installation Costs
Warmzone heated driveway systems are quick and easy to install. Any motivated do-it-yourselfer can install the system with little cost. Additionally, Warmzone heated driveways take only a fraction of the time and cost than other, more complicated systems require.

Electric heated driveway. Maintenance Costs
Herein lies the real beauty of heated driveway systems: there are no maintenance costs! Unlike hydronic systems, electric radiant heated driveways don't require additional equipment and have no moving parts, so there is no need to perform yearly maintenance. Install a heated driveway system and know that you can count on it for life.

As you can see, the costs of radiant heated driveways are minimal compared to the numerous benefits they afford. They’re efficient, they’re maintenance-free, and, best of all, they’ll keep you and your wallet happy all winter long.

Heated Driveway Means New Uses for Winter Clothes

January 04, 2010 00:01 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Try a Turn Around the Ice Rink or Down the Slopes Instead of Shoveling Snow

When the first blades of grass peak through the snow each spring I race to pack up my winter gear. No more bulky coats, itchy hats, or sweaty gloves. They will take a rest for a spell. And I will take a rest from the worries of winter and icy storms. I’m thinking this year I’ll reinvent the use for these bulky clothes. I’ve pulled them out of the winter box and hung them with care, knowing that this year the uses for them will be fun instead of work related. Having a heated driveway means I don’t have to haul out the mittens, coats, and hats to clear my driveway. The fully automated snowmelt system I have installed will do all the work for me.

Heated driveway system installed under brick paversThis year I’m going to put on that winter gear and slap on some skis, or maybe some ice skates and take a few turns around a rink. I’m going to smile while I wear this gear, instead of moan and groan as I push snow around the drive. My sidewalks will be happily clear too, thanks to my heated driveway system. The radiant heat cables lying snugly beneath my asphalt is doing all the hard labor for me, using minimal energy and taking cues from the smart snow sensor hung incognito on the roof beside my garage. I drive away on my driveway clear of snow and yelp with excitement as I get closer to the ski resort. This year my winter clothes are going to have some fun – and I am too!

Make Technology Work for You

December 27, 2009 00:12 AM  BY  JEN HALLAM

Driveway Heating is More Sophisticated Than Ever

None of us like to be Guinea pigs when a new operating system comes online or when the latest cell phone gadget is invented. Luckily if you are just coming onto the smart heated driveway scene, you are in luck. The technology has been tested and proven time and again with many happy snow-free customers. Installing a heated driveway system right now is not only a smart move for your property it is also fully automated and hands-free. You can sit inside with a hot cup of cocoa and watch with contentment as the snow falls outside, knowing you’ll never have to pick up a shovel. You can reserve your snow clothes for fun outdoor recreation like skiing instead of clearing snow from your driveway.

With the help of a snow melting system control unit you can install a heated driveway and never worry about it. A wall-mounted control unit uses smart technology to detect precipitation and outside temperatures, thereby turning your system on and off when, and only when, it is needed. The heated driveway system controller is easy-to-use and consists of a timer and digital operator interface with manual override capability. Now is the time to investigate a snowmelt system and how you can put technology to work for you.
