Melt That Snow Away

August 21, 2009 00:08 AM  BY  BENSON RICKS

Driveway Snowmelt Systems

Have you ever driven down the street after a snow storm and wondered why some driveways don’t have any snow on them? Strange isn’t it? Surely those ambitious homeowners didn't get up at 5 a.m. to shovel their driveways, did they? Probably not.

Chances are good that the owners of those homes had a heated driveway snow melting system installed. Electric snow melting systems are the modern shovel when it comes to driveway snow removal. You don’t even have to flip a switch, it’s all automated. The radiant heat systems require no maintenance and are surprisingly affordable. Does this all sound too easy?

Snow melting systems consist of installing a grid of heat cable in the driveway surface. When conditions are right for snow, a sensor will signal the control unit, activating the system so you can watch the snow melt away. Driveway snow melting is not just a convenience, it’s also a safety consideration. The system eliminates treacherous ice that is often the culprit for many most winter spills and tumbles.

A heated driveway system operates using the principles as an underfloor heat system that many people are now using in their homes. Radiant heat systems are a modern convenience that are becoming more of a standard as time progresses; they are that good. In some cases, these systems can also be installed in existing driveways so do yourself a treat and make snow removal easy this year. Installing a heated driveway system is a decision you will not regret.

Mother Nature vs. Ice Melter

August 14, 2009 00:08 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

Help Mother Nature out in her Plights Against Ice Melter and install a Radiant Heated Driveway Today.

It’s summer time, and we are all a little more aware of the environment as we engage in our summer outdoor activities. Nature has been pretty good to us this summer, and I think it’s high time we paid her back this winter. How you ask? By installing a radiant heated driveway. Yes, an unlikely answer, but it’s true! Radiant heated driveways eliminate the need for nasty ice melter that sucks the life out of the surrounding environment.

You may not realize it, but the ice melter you use all winter long is detrimental to the environment. Chloride-based ice melters release salts as they form brine solutions, and many plants are sensitive to these salts. When you shovel your snow, the salt from your driveway or stairs comes into direct contact with surrounding vegetation, resulting in slow growth, deformities, and/or susceptibility to disease. Additionally, salt can seep into the soil surrounding your driveway, which can draw moisture away from plant roots.

And if you’re not so into saving the environment, you’ll be interested to know that salt from ice melter can also corrode your driveway and stairs. Now that’s an expensive repair you definitely don’t need in the thick of winter.

Luckily for Mother Nature and you, radiant heated driveways are the greenest snow melting option out there. Heated driveway systems use radiant heat cables underneath your driveway to melt snow quickly and efficiently with absolutely no need for ice melter. In addition, heated driveways are fully automated, meaning you can be green this winter without any effort whatsoever.

So what are you waiting for? Plan ahead this summer so you can ditch the ice melter once and for all. Install a radiant heated driveway and give Mother Nature a little something back for all the good times she gave you this summer.

August 11, 2009 00:08 AM  BY  AMY MORBY

Install a Radiant Heat System in Your Driveway or Sidewalks and Avoid Messy Personal Injury Lawsuits.

In my past days as a legal assistant, I learned a thing or two about slip and fall cases, the most prominent in my mind being thus: avoid them at all costs. Every year, thousands of Americans file for lawsuits involving slipping on ice on either residential or commercial property, and let me tell you—personal injury suits are NOT pretty.Snowmelt systems can protect you from lawsuits.

Business or homeowners are responsible for anything dangerous that happens in or around their property, including slipping on black ice, slush, or melting snow. Those of us in cold climates know that these things are a way of life, and it might seem difficult—if not impossible—to fully eradicate these nuisances from our property. Well, I’m here to tell you that it is possible with a simple solution: radiant heat.

Radiant heated driveways and sidewalks are the number one way to make sure you stay safe and litigation-free this winter. Heated concrete systems are fully-automated little wonders that activate themselves at the slightest hint of a snowstorm, resulting in effortlessly snow- and ice-free driveways and sidewalks. A lawsuit doesn’t even have a chance of happening with these puppies around.

They say that the best defense you have against ice slip and fall cases is to make sure they never occur. In the traditional sense, this would involve you getting up close and personal with a shovel every backbreaking morning of your life. However, thanks to heated driveways and sidewalks, being prepared is as easy as, well, watching the snow melt from the warmth of your home or office.

Besides saving you thousands in litigation costs, radiant heating systems also save you thousands on operating costs as well as money wasted on shovels and ice melter. What’s more, radiant heated driveways are fast and efficient, obliterating snow and ice in half the time of other snowmelt systems out there.

So, get proactive and make sure lawsuits never happen—install a radiant heated driveway or sidewalk before anyone has a chance to even think about slapping you with a subpoena.
